Many kids struggle with self-monitoring. It is normal for them to just ask you what the word is. However, this does not help them become more efficient readers. When your child stops on a word, ask them why they stopped? What can they do to figure out the unknown word? If your child makes a mistake, stop them and ask if it makes sense? Does it sound right or look right? By implying these tips your child will become a more effective reader.
