In part 3 and final part of this series we will cover things you can do once your child begins the fifth grade.

Planning: Give your child opportunities to talk with people who have jobs that they like. Maybe there is a doctor living in your neighborhood or a friends parent that is an engineer.

Preparing: Encourage your child to read and write. Set aside some special time before bed for reading and have your child pick out a journal to write in every day and let them know that it is private for them.

Paying: Does your child earn an allowance for doing chores? Assist them in setting aside a portion of it into a college savings account.

There are undoubtedly a number of activities that your child is involved in. How in the world do you make time for them to read with everything else occupying their day. I would suggest setting aside a certain time every day for them to read. Right after breakfast is a nice time for them to read. Another good time is in the evening just before bed. The only need to read for 15-20 minutes per day. They do not have to sit down and read 50 pages daily. Your childs reading goal needs to be 2 hours per week to keep their minds sharp.
